How to Pack a Suitcase — 12 Practical Tips
Packing a suitcase takes one evening and determines the comfort of the whole trip. Here are 12 field-tested tips to avoid wrinkled shirts, overweight bags, and spilled shampoo.
Rolling vs folding
1. Roll everyday clothes — t-shirts, jeans, knitwear take 20–30% less space rolled and wrinkle less. Stack rolls vertically so everything is visible at a glance. 2. Fold formal wear — jackets and dress shirts don't tolerate rolling; lay them flat on top. 3. Combine: rolls on the bottom, heavy items in the middle, delicate folded pieces on top.
Packing cubes change everything
4. Cubes turn a suitcase into drawers: shirts in one, underwear in another — no more digging through everything at the hotel. 5. Compression cubes squeeze the air out and visibly shrink your clothes pile. Find cubes, toiletry bags, and cable pouches in our travel organizers catalog. 6. Bring a separate laundry bag for the trip home.
Liquids, weight, balance
7. Carry-on liquids: max 100 ml per container, all in one transparent ~1 L bag. 8. Put plastic film under bottle caps — one leaked shampoo ruins a whole case. 9. Pack heavy items (shoes, books, electronics) on the wheel side so the case stays balanced. 10. Weigh your bag before the airport and leave 1–2 kg spare for souvenirs. 11. Stuff socks and chargers inside shoes, and bag each pair. 12. If you check luggage, keep one change of clothes, medication, and valuables in your carry-on.
